Hurricane Ida made landfall 6 months ago and over 17 thousand households have been able to register for the Hurricane Ida Sheltering Program since registration opened October 4, 2021. The period of performance established by FEMA for emergency work is typically 6 months from the date of federal declaration. The emergency sheltering program has sheltered over 12 thousand survivors across the 7 most heavily impacted Parishes where no other non-congregate sheltering options were available. The state has evaluated the current registrations and determined that those most in need of emergency shelter have had the opportunity to register for the program via the toll free number (available 7 days a week from 7 A.M. to 7 P.M.), at a Disaster Recovery Center or other Outreach event, or thru initial registration with their Parishes. Therefore, registration for the Program is now closed. If you began your registration, you will be able to finish registering if you still have an emergency sheltering unmet need and meet the eligibility requirements of the Sheltering Program.
